Brian Crafton, HCHS 1992
Crafton was a four-year soccer letter-winner for the Colonels and the school’s all-time leading scorer. He was a two-time, first-team all-stater (1990, 1991) and played at the University of Kentucky. He led the Colonels in scoring during his junior season as HCHS won district and sectional championships en route to the state final four and a school record 20-4-2 season record. Crafton was also a standout for the Colonel tennis team that finished third in the state tournament.

   

   

Gary Hape, HCHS 1962
Gary Hape was the 6-8 center on the ’61 Colonel basketball team which was the first team in Colonel history to qualify for the Sweet 16. County High single game scoring record holder with 51 points vs. Morganfield St. Vincent. Scored 907 career points for Colonels. Played for Kilgore (Tx) Junior College, averaging 17 points as a freshman, 19 as a sophomore. Originally signed to play for the legendary Adolph Rupp at Kentucky. Played two years at Oklahoma City College, averaging 11 points a game as a senior.

Nicole Hay-Jones, HCHS 1994
Earned 1994 All-District, All-Regional and All-State basketball honors for Lady Colonel basketball team that advanced to the KHSAA Final Four with a 29-3 record. Second-leading all-time HCHS scorer with 1,647 career points. Runner-up in Miss Kentucky Basketball voting and played for Kentucky All-Stars vs. Indiana. Second team junior college All-American at Northeast Oklahoma JC. Played two seasons at the University of Kentucky where she earned MVP honors in the 1996 Villanova Wildcat Classic.

Don Speaks, Holy Name 1955
Two-time Cardinal basketball captain, he averaged 21 points as a junior and 19 points per game in his senior season while being named all district. Speaks was offered a college scholarship by nine schools, but opted to enter the Air Force, where his military all-star team played a collegiate schedule. During four years of service ball he earned MVP honors in the 1959 Middletown (N.Y.) Holiday Tournament and was also MVP in the Eastern Air Defense Force Tournaments at Ethan Allen Air Force Base in Vermont.

HCHS 1993-94 Girls Basketball Team
One of school’s winningest all-time teams with a 29-3 record, they won the Union County State Farm Classic, Sixth District and Second Region Championships and reached the State Final Four before falling 73-59 to eventual state champion M.C. Napier.
